MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Hundreds of kids will be going home with a new bike thanks to Sixteenth Street Bike Day in Milwaukee. 

After a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19, the free event -- hosted by Sixteenth Street Community Health Centers -- will take place Saturday, June 18 at Kosciuszko Park, located on Lincoln Ave. between S. 7th and 10th Streets.

The event, happening from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., promotes an active lifestyle and encourages families to be active together. 

Nearly 500 bikes will be given out as well as helmets and locks to children in the community. 

The event will also offer COVID-19 vaccines, bike safety demonstrations, healthy food, Zumba and Salsa dancing, music, and more. Sixteenth Street Bike Day typically brings together about 1,000 children and adults.

“Bike Day is what Sixteenth Street is all about – helping individuals and families in our community live healthy to prevent disease is at the core of our mission,” said Dr. Julie Schuller, Sixteenth Street’s president and CEO. “For some of the kids in our neighborhood, this will be their first bike. Seeing their excitement and gratitude at Bike Day will truly warm your heart.”

CBS 58 and Telemundo Wisconsin's Victor Jacobo and Alejandra Palacios will emcee the event.
