Motorcycle crash, failure to control, impaired driving, failure to comply with a police order: Solon Road, Chagrin River Road

A patrol officer witnessed a motorcyclist sway to the right of the roadway then strike the curb on Solon Road, causing the Honda to flip over and eject the rider at 7:50 p.m. on June 15.

His back then landed on the concrete, where he then slid a considerable distance. Then the Elyria man, 35, picked himself up and got back on the bike.

When the officer came up and asked him to secure the motorcycle by putting the kickstand down, he tried to start it, saying he was fine. The officer said he was not fine, and needed medical attention, if nothing else, for the visible injuries to his arm and back.

The officer, who also noticed possible signs of impairment, asked him for his driver’s license. The rider started the cycle and sped away on the severely disabled bike, turning onto Chagrin River Road, not realizing it was a dead end section.

He attempted to turn around and double back, but the officer managed to block the road, then warned him that he would be pepper-sprayed if he failed to follow orders again.

The rider promptly pulled the visor down on his motorcycle helmet, but the officer got a well-aimed shot angled from the neck and upper chest that caused him to jump off the bike.

He was still refusing verbal commands, at least until another officer arrived and got him with another blast of pepper spray, at which point he pulled the helmet off.

Asked how many drinks he’d consumed, he said one. When he was taken to Hillcrest Hospital, he submitted to a blood test, but refused to sign any of the accompanying forms. He was later served with the formal charges in the hospital, with no condition update available.

Driving under suspension, warrant: Solon Road

A Cleveland woman, 21, was stopped at 10:03 a.m. on June 9 after a random registration check showed she was driving under a license forfeiture. She also had an active warrant with Parma police, although they asked that she simply be advised on the infraction and released to turn herself in at a later date. The 2016 Toyota Prius was towed and she returned within about an hour with a licensed driver to pick it up.
