Escambia County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested a Pensacola man on suspicion of aggravated child abuse Thursday morning after he allegedly attacked a child during football practice Sept. 20.

Deputies charged 41-year-old David Alan Taylor with a first-degree felony count of aggravated child abuse and a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct after he allegedly entered a football practice for 9-year-olds and struck a player with a football helmet.

Taylor "ran out to the football field and was angry" due to a player crying, according to his arrest report. He then "immediately got (redacted) helmet and placed it on his head ... then got in a football kneeling stance" and was seen "running and striking" the child in his chest with the football helmet.

"Taylor then grabs (victim) by his arms and pushed him several feet," the report alleged. "Taylor then placed (the child) on his back on the ground in a aggressive manner."

Once Taylor allegedly pinned the child to the ground, coaches attempted to intervene. Law enforcement separated Taylor and the coaches when Taylor began "to go after" one of the coaches, the report states.

The child's physical injuries are unknown. The arrest report does not include the location of the incident.

Taylor was booked into Escambia County Jail at 12:47 a.m. Thursday and was released at 3:47 a.m. on $30,000 bond, according to jail records.
