TEAM GB skateboarder Sky Brown wore an inspirational message on the back of her helmet during her bronze medal triumph at the Olympic Games.

The 13-year-old became the youngest Olympic medallist in British history as she took third in the women's park skateboarding in Tokyo.

And in a major moment for UK skateboarding, Brown took the opportunity to have a few powerful words written on her helmet.

It read: "Be brave, have fun & do it 'cause you love it!! Sky."

Japan’s Sakura Yosozumi won the title with 60.09 points and 12-year-old home star Kokona Hiraki was second with 59.04.

Brown was out of the medals but moved into third place with a brilliant final run of 56.47.

Misugu Okamoto, the pre-race favourite, had the chance to move onto the podium but fell on her final run to quash the hosts hopes of a Japan 1-2-3.

Brown's story is made even more incredible when you consider she suffered several skull fractures after a horror crash last year.

And the teenage sensation revealed after clinching the bronze medal that her parents told her to give up the sport when she sustained the injuries.

She said: “I knew I would come here [to Tokyo]. But I didn’t know if I could skate as my parents told me not to skate anymore and do something else.

"I feel the accident made me stronger here. I am happy to be here with these guys."

Brown, who began competing at the age of just eight, learned to skate through watching tricks on YouTube.

Away from skating, she also appeared on Dancing with the Stars: Juniors - the American version of Strictly Come Dancing - in 2018.

And she went on to win the competition, establishing herself as a fan favourite with her extroverted personality.
